Independence Day

I am back briefly before we go off to Kottivakkum to wish you all a happy Independence day. We went to a flag raising at Vepery YMCA (where we are staying) this morning and then Rob was asked to cut the ribbon to the new sports hall, and Cathy and Rob played the first badminton game on the court.

Then we split into three groups to go to the celebrations at various community centres. I went back to Sathmanaga, the nice Carom one, where we had speeches, flag raising and national anthems. We were presented with garlands and Cathy gave some felicitations. We were also given a coconut each top drink, and out of politeness had to finish it, eeeeeeeew, my tummy was not happy on the journey back.

But overall it was a good experience, though a bit strange that ‘Mis. Robert and Friends’ were treated as honoured guests, surely a little backwards for Independence day?

Bangalore tomorrow then straight on to Yellagiri so who knows when I will be back again?!?!
